Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Issue of Medical Card.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

225 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health if he will request the Eastern Health Board to ensure that a medical card is made available to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6.

The provision of a medical card to any individual is a matter for the chief executive officer of the health board in which the applicant resides.

I have had this matter examined by the Eastern Health Board and I have been informed that this case came to the attention of the board on 16 June. The person concerned is being granted a medical card.

The board has also indicated to me that supplementary welfare allowance is being paid to the individual in question as and from Friday, 19 June at the rate of £50 per week. In addition, an allowance of £31.50 per week towards this person's rent, has also been granted by the board.

The board has also made arrangements to have this person transported to hospital by ambulance for his next out-patient appointment on Thursday, 25 June.

Arrangements will also be made to provide ambulance transport for future out-patient appointments in this case as required.
