Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Galway Water Scheme.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

244 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline his proposals for the extension of the Galway main water scheme from Derrydonnell to connect with Athenry town where the supply is inadequate; when he will make a grant available for the completion of the link between the Galway mains and Athenry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Frank Fahey

Question:

253 Mr. F. Fahey asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the serious condition of the Athenry town water supply, he will provide Galway County Council with the necessary funding to undertake and complete the extension of the Oranmore Scheme to link up with the Athenry town supply.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 244 and 253 together.

Proposals to extend the mid Galway Regional Water Supply Scheme from Derrydonnell to Athenry were recently received in my Department. Galway County Council has been requested to submit additional technical information to enable the proposals to be considered further. The question of funding does not arise at this stage.
