262 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the total number of applicants for local authority housing on hand with the various local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Details of the most recent assessment of housing needs carried out by each housing authority under section 9 of the Housing Act, 1988 to reflect the position at 31 March 1991 were published in the Annual Housing Statistics Bulletin for 1991, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.
263 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment the number of local authority housing starts recorded in the current year up to 15 June; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Returns on their housing operations, including activity under their housing construction programmes, are obtained on a quarterly basis from local authorities. During the period 1 January 1992 to 31 March 1992, 182 "starts" had been achieved under the programme; details will be published shortly in the Housing Statistics Bulletin for the quarter ended March 1992.
