Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - US Aircraft Overflight.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

273 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if a US airforce aircraft was recently given permission to overfly or land at Carrickfinn Airport, County Donegal; if so, if he will outline the purpose for which the permission was granted; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No US military aircraft sought or was granted permission to overfly or land at Carrickfinn Airport, County Donegal recently.

However, a civil aircraft belonging to the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) carried out a flight check on 27 May at Carrickfinn Airport to test the accuracy of the navigational aids there in the interest of the safety of aircraft using the airport. The FAA, which is a civil aviation body, carried out the test at the request of the Department of Tourism, Transport and Communications.
