Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Application Statistics.

Frank Crowley

Question:

300 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline (1) the number of applicants under the 1991 cattle headage grant payments, (2) the number of rejected applications, (3) the number of applicants paid in December 1991, (4) the number of applicants paid in each month, between January and May 1992 and (5) the number of applications still waiting to be processed.

As application forms for the 1991 cattle headage scheme in more severely handicapped areas issued before a decision was made on the reclassification of some of Ireland's less severely handicapped areas to more severely handicapped status all farmers were advised to apply for disadvantaged areas cattle headage grants pending the decision. The number of applicants lodged was accordingly far greater than the number of valid applications, which is estimated at 82,000.

The number of cattle headage scheme applicants paid for each month from December 1991 to May 1992 is as follows:—

Month

Number of Applicants Paid

December 1991

64,356

January 1992

6,184

February 1992

5,450

March 1992

2,789

April 1992

1,318

May 1992

999

A further 78 applicants have been paid since the beginning of June and it is estimated that the unpaid cases, which comprise query cases and refusal cases come to 800 to 900. It is not possible at this stage to give a breakdown between the two as some query cases will eventually be paid.
