Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Government Act, 1991.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

44 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for the Environment if he will list the sections of the Local Government Act, 1991 which have not yet been brought into effect; when it is intended to make the necessary orders to commence these sections; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Local Government Act, 1991 is being brought into effect as quickly as possible on a phased basis as necessary regulations are made and other preparatory action taken. At this stage, over two-thirds of the provisions of the Act have been commenced. The provisions not yet commenced are Parts V and VI and sections 4 (part of), 12, 43, 51 and 54 (a). These will be brought into effect as soon as the necessary preparatory work has been completed.
