Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Transportation Initiative.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

63 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the progress made with regard to the implementation of the commitment given in the Review of the Programme for Government to introduce an integrated ongoing planning process for transportation in the Dublin area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On 24 February last, I announced the appointment of an international consortium of consultants to carry out Phase 2 of the Dublin Transportation Initiative. The primary purpose of this Initiative is to produce an effective process for ongoing and integrated transportation planning in the Greater Dublin Area. This process will, in turn, provide a long term transportation strategy and a medium term investment/implementation programme. The Phase 2 final report is due in April 1993, with an interim report in September 1992.
