Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Dress Code.

Peter Barry

Question:

80 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Defence if it is a requirement of the Defence Forces that members be cleanshaven.

There is a long-standing rule that members of the Defence Forces are not allowed to wear beards except in the case of personnel of the Naval Service at sea, when permitted to do so by the Commanding Officer of their ship.

Members of An FCA may, however, be granted an exemption from this rule on application to the appropriate authority.
