Vol. 421 No. 6

Written Answers. - Third Level Students Work Experience.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

24 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education his views on whether third level students would benefit from a much greater exposure to the work place during their various courses of study; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department actively encourages the development and the strengthening of university-industry links, including work experience, because of the benefits to all concerned including students. A number of universities have co-operative type programmes whereby students obtain work experience as an integral part of their course while other institutions encourage students to acquire relevant work experience during their vacation periods.
