Vol. 421 No. 6

Written Answers. - Green Paper on Education.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

33 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if he will give the latest expected date for the publication of the long promised Green Paper on Education; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

112 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if he will outline (a) the intended date of publication of the Green Paper on Education, (b) the time provided for discussion in advance on the publication of the White Paper, (c) the date of publication of the White Paper and (d) the arrangements for consultation with the interested parties.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 33 and 112 together.

I am happy to announce that the Green Paper on Education will be launched this afternoon. I am making copies available to the party leaders and to the spokespersons on Education.

I envisage about a six-month period for discussion and consultation with all concerned interests leading to the publication of the White Paper and a legislative programme.

Consultation will take place through a series of meetings with the concerned interests, which will commence at an early date.
