Vol. 421 No. 6

Written Answers. - International Whaling Commission.

Alan Shatter

Question:

87 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Finance whether we are participating in the International Whaling Commission meeting which is commencing on 29 June 1992 in Glasgow; whether the Government support maintaining a ban on whaling; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ireland will be represented at the 44th Annual Meeting of the International Whaling Commission in Glasgow, Scotland on 29 June-3 July, 1992, by the Commissioner appointed to the IWC for this country.

In our participating in the Commission, Ireland will continue to support the ban on commercial whaling until saisfactory management procedures, which will ensure stocks are not depleted, are adopted.
