Jim Higgins

Question:

118 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of the legislation for which he is responsible enacted by the Oireachtas which has not yet gone into effect; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take questions Nos. 117 and 118 together.

With the exception of legislation related to Higher Education Grants which is at an advanced stage of preparation and will be introduced shortly, no legislation has been promised since 1989 which has not been introduced. The following legislation has been introduced since then:

University of Limerick Bill 1989, introduced and passed in 1989; Dublin City University Bill 1989, introduced and passed in 1989; University of Limerick (Dissolution of Thomond College) Bill, 1991, introduced and passed in 1991; Regional Technical Colleges Bill, 1991, introduced in 1991, Committee Stage concluded; Dublin Institute of Technology Bill, 1991, introduced in 1991, Committee Stage concluded.

No legislation for which I am responsible has been enacted which has not gone into effect.
