Vol. 422 No. 1

Written Answers. - Job Creation Targets.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

25 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for the Marine if, in regard to the commitments made in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress, he will outline the progress which has been made towards meeting the targets for job creation for the marine sector of 1,450 full-time jobs and 1,400 part-time jobs; if he will further outline the number of jobs in the marine sector lost in the same period; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Programme for Economic and Social Progress covers the years 1991 to 1993 inclusive.

Provisional data for employment creation in the marine sector in 1991, which is the first year of the programme, are currently being compiled and analysed. Preliminary indications are that job creation appears to be in line with the targets of 2,850 full-time and part-time jobs set in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

There has been no reconciliation undertaken of jobs created and jobs lost in the period, as insufficient data are available as yet to undertake such an analysis.
