Vol. 422 No. 1

Written Answers. - EC Funds Application.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

26 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine whether any application has been made by the Irish Government for EC Structural Funds or EC Cohesion Funds for the building of a modern car ferry terminal in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin; whether any commitment has been given by the EC to provide funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The present round of EC Structural Funds for the period 1989-1993 is fully subscribed. However, should a project not be proceeded with or should additional funds become available the question of submitting additional projects will be considered.

The process of selecting projects for post 1993 Structural Funding is at present under way. The availability of Cohesion Funds will also be considered in this respect. A definitive list of projects has not yet been finalised. However, it is proposed to finalise the list of projects as soon as practicable.

The building of a new ferry terminal complex at Dún Laoghaire Harbour is being considered for inclusion in this forthcoming round of Cohesion Structural Funds.
