Vol. 422 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Bus Withdrawal.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

64 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if he will clarify the reason for the proposed withdrawal of the two school buses servicing a national school (details supplied) in County Cork; if this withdrawal is justified, and if he has any alternative plans to have this service improved, which has been unsatisfactory for some time.

Under the terms of the Primary School Transport Scheme, a minimum average daily number of ten eligible children must be conveyed in order to maintain a service. In the cases in which the Deputy referred, there were only seven eligible children available for transport on one service, and only five on the other. In these circumstances, it was necessary to withdraw the services.
