Vol. 422 No. 4

Written Answers. - Interpretative Centres.

John Connor

Question:

124 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Finance if, in the context of establishing major national interpretative centres, he will consider the siting of a major centre at the prehistoric royal site at Cruchain, Rathcroghan, County Roscommon, in order to interpret and give information on this leading national archaeological site and to illustrate and explain bronze age, Celtic civilisation and the earthworks archaeology and remains of this civilisation that are found all over the country but particularly in this region.

There are no proposals at present to provide an interpretative centre at Cruchain, Rathcroghan, County Roscommon. The first requirement is to provide access to some of the major monuments and this is being jointly undertaken by Roscommon County Council and the Office of Public Works. Some on-site information and orientation plaques are proposed.
