Vol. 422 No. 4

Written Answers. - Fishing Limits.

Edward Nealon

Question:

133 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Marine if the licence for a sea fishing boat or tank boat allows fishing of any sort by that boat within a distance of three nautical miles from the baselines.

The vast majority of boats in the Irish fleet are relatively small and suited mainly for inshore fishing. None of these boats is precluded from fishing within three nautical miles of baselines. In general boats over 90 feet, including tank boats, are precluded from fishing within three miles. There are however, a very small number of exceptions to this preclusion.
