Vol. 422 No. 4

Written Answers. - Counties Sligo-Leitrim MMDS System.

Edward Nealon

Question:

160 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if the MMDS system is now operational in any parts of Counties Sligo or Leitrim; and if so, if she will give details of the areas covered and the location of the transmitters being used.

In practice, the service area of an MMDS transmitter is dependent on a number of factors including site height, power, antenna configuration and the nature of the surrounding terrain. Coverage in one direction from the transmitter may be better than in another. An MMDS system is in operation at Brathlee, County Sligo which, subject to the above, provides coverage of County Sligo and parts of north Leitrim. An MMDS system is in operation at a site in Roscommon which, subject to the above, provides coverage in areas of County Leitrim south of Drumshanbo.
