Vol. 422 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Funding from National Lottery.

Edward Nealon

Question:

166 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the proportion of the £39.8 million from the national lottery funds, intended to be spent on health services in 1992, which will be spent on (a) the North-Western Health Board area and (b) in County Sligo.

The distribution of the full Health allocation of national lottery funds for 1992 is not yet finalised. Therefore, it is not possible at this stage to say what proportion of the 1992 allocation will be spent in the North-Western Health Board area or in County Sligo. The bulk of the £39.8 million will be expended on services for the elderly, the mentally and physically handicapped, child care services, the hospital building programme, public health and other services provided by the health boards and on miscellaneous grants to national and local voluntary groups. The North-Western Health Board was recently given a block allocation of £160,000 from national lottery proceeds which it will distribute, as it sees fit, mainly to local voluntary groups operating in the health board area.
