Vol. 422 No. 4

Written Answers. - Funding for North-West Hospice.

Edward Nealon

Question:

170 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the North West Hospice, which is doing such excellent work, receives no regular Government funding or regular funding from the North Western Health Board; and if, in view of the excellent work being done at present and the major plans for development, he will provide funding through national lottery funds or otherwise.

I am aware of the excellent work being carried out by the North West Hospice. It was in recognition of this that in 1991 my Department, through the North Western Health Board, paid a grant of £35,000 from national lottery funds to this hospice movement. I now have on hand an application for further national lottery assistance for the North West Hospice which I will be considering having due regard to the many worthy calls on the limited national lottery funds at my disposal. The North Western Health Board will also consider making grant assistance available for the North West Hospice from its 1992 block allocation of national lottery funds upon receipt of an application for such assistance.
