Question:

44 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Finance the number of interpretative/ visitor centres to be established by the Office of Public Works; the location of each centre; and if, in each case, he will give details of the amount of the cost which is being funded (a) locally, (b) nationally and (c) by the EC.

The following visitor centre projects are either planned, in progress or have been completed as part of the tourism operational programme 1989-93.

(15) Waterways Centre Grand Canal Basin, Dublin

In general, these centres are being funded 75 per cent by the EC Structural Fund and 25 per cent by the Exchequer, with the exception of the Corlea Bog project, which is being funded nationally. None of the centres will attract any local funding.
