Vol. 422 No. 4

Written Answers. - Study on Office of Public Works.

John Connor

Question:

67 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Finance if he will confirm that the Price Waterhouse study of the Office of Public Works recommended a radical reorganisation of the office; and if, in view of the two year time lapse since the delivery of this report to his predecessor, it is now to be assumed that the recommendations of the report are no longer to be acted upon.

The Price Waterhouse study recommended a large number of reforms covering the whole spectrum of the operations of the Office of Public Works. My Department and the Office of Public Works prepared a programme for implementing many of the worthwhile and detailed proposals contained in the study. The programme of reform was approved last year and will be carried into effect over a three year period. The intention is to achieve more commercial management of the Office of Public Works operations and to increase efficiency and effectiveness generally.
