81 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Finance if, having regard to his predecessor's speech in Dáil Éireann on 7 May 1991 and to other recent developments, he is prepared to establish an examination of the financing of political parties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The issues which arise in relation to the broad question of the funding of political parties are complex and sensitive. I would not consider it appropriate for me at this stage to take an initiative in setting in train an examination process in relation to them. My view is that consideration of these issues should in the first instance be left to the Committee on Procedure and Privileges.
