Vol. 422 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Figures.

Austin Deasy

Question:

2 Mr. Deasy asked the Taoiseach if he will outline the latest unemployment figures for (1) Waterford city labour exchange, (2) Dungarvan and (3) Lismore; and the way in which these compare with the figures for the corresponding date in (a) 1988 and (b) 1990.

The information requested by the Deputy is contained in a statement which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

Will the Minister of State give me the numbers on the live register for 1992?

The number of persons on the live register in the employment exchange in Dungarvan is 1,096. I have no figures for Lismore. The number in Waterford is 6,580, making a total of 7,676 on the live register in County Waterford in 1992.

Alan Shatter

Question:

3 Mr. Shatter asked the Taoiseach if he will outline (1) the number of people registered as unemployed residing in the Dublin South constituency as at 30 April in each of the years between 1987 and 1992 and (2) the percentage increase and/or decrease in unemployment in each of those years.

The information requested by the Deputy is not available. The monthly areas analysis of the live register count provides details of the number of persons registering at each of the 128 local employment offices of the Department of Social Welfare throughout the country. The existing arrangements do not allow the classification of the live register by area of residence.

We are now coming to questions nominated for priority. Let us try to dispose of the five questions tabled to the Minister for Finance within the time limit laid down in Standing Orders which is, I repeat, only 15 minutes.
