Vol. 422 No. 5

Written Answers. - General Practitioner Services.

Bernard Allen

Question:

115 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on a report (details supplied) that general practice in Ireland is fragmented and isolated according to a GMS review discussion document drawn up by his Department.

The Deputy will be aware that the review of the general medical service is now under way and that the review will address a wide range of issues of concern to participating general practitioners and to health service management. In this context a number of confidential discussion papers have been circulated by both parties which seek to outline the current difficulties associated with the scheme and suggest remedies. While I do not wish to comment on any specific matter currently under discussion I can assure the Deputy that all aspects of the delivery of general practitioner services will be fully explored.
