Vol. 422 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Addresses on Register of Electors.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

130 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received requests from members of the Garda Síochána to be allowed to have their names put on the register of electors at the address of the Garda stations where they work so as to provide their home and family with the privacy which the nature of their job requires; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No such requests have been received by me from members of the Garda Síochána. In regard to registration as electors, I refer to the reply to Question No. 140 on 24 June 1992 in which I indicated that a garda will, if the Electoral (No. 2) Bill, 1991 is enacted, be entitled to opt for registration in the ordinary way (i.e. at the address where he/she ordinarily resides and without any distinguishing mark on the register).
