Vol. 422 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Arrears.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

76 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Finance if, in relation to a company (details supplied) in County Leitrim, he will outline (1) whether arrangements entered into regarding payment of arrears of tax have been complied with and (2) if the arrears have now been cleared; if he will confirm that approximately £11,000 remains outstanding in arrears of tax and PRSI; if he will further outline the steps which are being taken to collect the balance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I refer to the Deputy's previous parliamentary questions on the same topic which were answered on 6 November and 12 December, 1991 respectively.

As was indicated in both previous replies, it is established practice that a Minister for Finance does not answer a parliamentary question about an indivdual's tax affairs, other than when the Deputy asking the question is acting on behalf of the taxpayer. It is my understanding that this is not the case in the present instance. In the circumstances, therefore, I regret that I must accept the advice of the Revenue Commissioners that the information sought should not be divulged.
