88 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice whether he has received any submissions on the setting up of a gaming and lottery board; whether there is any EC Directive or debate on this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I have received a number of submissions of the kind referred to by the Deputy. With regard to consideration of this area at EC level I understand that the Commission is conducting a study on gambling in the context of the Single Market but have not as yet announced any proposals in that regard. Any comment on my part at this stage would therefore be premature.
