Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Limerick School.

Michael Noonan

Question:

184 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the excellent work being carried out by a special school (details supplied) in County Limerick; and the steps he intends taking to put this school on a proper financial footing.

I am fully aware and appreciative of the work being carried out by the school in question. Indeed, the additional demands imposed on special schools such as this are already recognised in the form of favourable pupil-teacher ratios and enhanced capitation grants.

The Special Education Review Committee is at present considering the range of provisions necessary to meet the educational requirements of children with special needs and I will be considering the circumstances of special schools in the light of the committee's recommendations.
