Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Bus Service.

Michael Noonan

Question:

212 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education when he will give sanction for the extension of a school bus service to collect a pupil (details supplied) in County Limerick and take him to a special school in Limerick city.

An extension of the school bus service to provide the child in question with a home pick-up service has been arranged.

Enda Kenny

Question:

213 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education if he will restore school transport to a school (details supplied) in County Mayo.

Up to Easter, 1989, children from the area in question had a service of their own, but it had to be withdrawn because the numbers no longer warranted it. However, as a result of a change in an existing special school service to cater for a pupil from the same area, it was possible to accommodate the children involved.

The service was withdrawn when that pupil completed his primary schooling. Because there is no longer a service from the particular area, my Department is prepared to offer grant-aid towards the cost of private transport arrangements for those who qualify for such grant aid.
