Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Bus Service.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

219 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if he will restore the school bus service for the Killoe-Letter area of Cahirciveen, County Kerry.

Following a check of eligibility, by the local Transport Liaison Officer and Bus Éireann, pupils in the Killoe-Letter area of Caherciveen were found to live less than 3 miles from Caherciveen and are, therefore, ineligible under the terms of the Post-Primary Transport Scheme. A spur off the main route of service was subsequently withdrawn from this area because additional State cost may not be incurred for the transport of ineligible children.

Accommodation is still available for these pupils on the main route of service to Caherciveen. The revised pick-up/set-down points are approximately 1 mile from the Killoe-Letter area. This is considered to be a reasonable standard of service and compares favourably to what is provided for pupils throughout the country.
