Question:275 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he proposes to introduce legislation which will allow the VHI to sell health insurance abroad; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I will be bringing new health insurance legislation before the House early next year to comply with the provisions of the Third EC Directive on Non-Life Insurance. The question of whether VHI will be authorised to sell health insurance abroad will be considered in the context of the new legislation which must be in place by July 1994.
