Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Establishment of Denturists' Scheme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

283 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health when insured workers and their spouses will be in a position to approach denturists directly to avail of their services.

Under the 1985 Dentists Act, the Dental Council is empowered to devise and present a scheme for the establishment of denturists to the Minister for Health for approval. I have met with representatives of the Dental Council regarding the establishment of such a scheme for denturists as auxiliary dental workers and my Department are currently discussing the issues involved with the Dental Council.

When a scheme to register denturists is in place it will be a matter for the Minister for Social Welfare to decide on the question of including denturists under the PRSI dental treatment benefit scheme for insured persons and their spouses.
