Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Wicklow Sewerage Scheme.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

305 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the serious problems affecting Mount Usher Gardens due to the Ashford Sewerage plant in County Wicklow and to the fact that Bord Fáilte have stated that unless these problems are rectified, it might have to discourage visitors from visiting Mount Usher Gardens; and the action, if any, he intends to take in this matter.

Question:

317 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the serious problems now affecting Mount Usher Gardens due to the fact that the Ashford Sewerage plant in County Wicklow now appears to be inadequate, and the dreadful smells affecting the garden; and the manner in which he intends to rectify this problem.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 305 and 317 together. A preliminary report for a new sewerage scheme to serve Ashford and Rathnew has been submitted to my Department by Wicklow County Council. The report addresses the problems associated with the Ashford Sewage treatment works and assesses possible solutions. A decision on this report will issue as soon as possible.
