Question:340 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment the number of people on the housing list in Cork Corporation in 1986, 1988, 1990 and 1992.

The number of approved applicants for local authority housing in Cork city was 1,228 at 31 December 1986 and 998 at 31 December 1988.
Since section 9 of the Housing Act, 1988 came into operation on 1 April 1989, two assessments of the need for local authority housing have been carried out, at 30 September 1989 and 31 March 1991. Details of these are given in the Annual Housing Statistics Bulletins for 1989 and 1991 respectively, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. An assessment under section 9 was not carried out in 1992.
