Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sunday Elections.

Seán Power

Question:

344 Mr. Power asked the Minister for the Environment if consideration will be given to holding future elections and referenda on Sundays; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Electoral (No. 2) Bill, 1991, at present before the Dáil, will remove a legal obstacle to voting at Dáil elections on Sunday. On enactment of that Bill it will be possible for the Minister to consider, at the appropriate time, whether Sunday should be appointed as the polling day at any election or referendum.
