Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Amendment of Road Traffic Act.

Bernard Allen

Question:

369 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment if he proposes to repeal Section 37 (2) (b) of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 as the section is very unfair and unjust to motorists who received endorsements on their licences and who are ignorant of the fact that the term of a continuous period of not less than three years in the section means that the applicant, if he leaves a gap of even one day between the date of expiration of his last licence and the date of renewal, has to suffer a further three years endorsement of his licences; and if, in view of the injustices involved he will repeal that section.

I have no proposals for the amendment or repeal at this stage of section 37 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 but I will consider the point in the next review of road traffic law generally.
