Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tenant Purchase Schemes.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

371 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the special position of tenants of flat complexes and especially in view of the fact that the many complexities in relation to the purchase of flats were not sorted out until the enactment of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1992, he will allow for new applications from flat tenants who wish to purchase their flats under the 1988 scheme.

The questions in relation to the sale of flats which were addressed in section 26 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1992 had no bearing on the making of applications by tenants of local authority flat complexes to purchase their dwellings under the terms of the 1988 and 1989 tenant purchase schemes. I do not, therefore, propose to extend the closing dates of the schemes.
