Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Query.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

429 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Welfare when full unemployment assistance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person concerned received unemployment benefit payments for the maximum period of 390 days to 30 April 1992. An application for unemployment assistance was received before his unemployment benefit payments terminated. After investigation his application was referred to a Deciding Officer who assessed the means at £38.21, derived from capital, the disposal of which was not satisfactorily accounted for.

He appealed against the decision to the independent Social Welfare Appeals Office. The appeals officer reduced the means to £36.10. This assessment entitles him to payment at the weekly rate of £18.90 from 1 May 1992, increasing to £21.20 from 29 July 1992 arising from the budgetary increases.

Arrears due amounting to £45.90 in respect of the period 1 May 1992 to 29 September 1992 will be issued to the person concerned on week ending 6 October 1992.
