441 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline the incentives or support he will provide through CERT to enable Irish tourism and catering to achieve the ISO 9000 quality standard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
CERT has been instrumental in the setting up of an ISO 9000 Steering Committee for the Tourism Industry in conjunction with the National Standards Authority of Ireland. The committee has finalised guidelines for the application of ISO 9000 within the industry and these guidelines will be published and promoted over the coming months. It will be a matter for individual employers to apply to the National Standards Authority of Ireland for the ISO 9000. CERT would, of course, provide advice and assistance, on a commercial basis, to any employer needing assistance in this regard.
