Vol. 423 No. 1

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Ministers' Responsibilities.

Peter Barry

Question:

1 Mr. Barry asked the Taoiseach if he will give details of the responsibilities of the Minister or Ministers of State at each Government Department.

The responsibilities of Ministers and Ministers of State are set out in the Ministers and Secretaries Acts, in the Statutory Orders made under that legislation and in my announcements to this House on 13 February last and earlier today.

I am trying to establish who in each Department has responsibility for sections of the Department. For instance, according to the papers Deputy Kitt has responsibility for European Affairs at the Department of Foreign Affairs. I had hoped the Taoiseach would give me a list of each Minister of State's responsibility in each Department, both legal responsibilities under legislation and responsibilities allocated either by the Taoiseach or the appropriate Minister.

I will facilitate the Deputy. I was not quite certain what information the Deputy was seeking. Some of it is available already in the House and I will get the balance.
