Vol. 423 No. 2

Written Answers. - Labour Schemes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

41 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Labour whether sufficient funds have been made available in 1992 to meet the requirements of the various schemes operated by his Department; the number of applications for social employment schemes in 1992; the number which were successful; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The level of funding provided in my Department's Vote in 1992 coupled with EC resources where appropriate has enabled Teamwork and the employment incentive scheme which had been operating for the past number of years to continue at the same level of participation as in 1991.

There were 11,134 participants on the social employment scheme at end August. A national figure of the number of persons seeking to participate in the social employment scheme is not available. The numbers registered for this purpose at each FÁS office would be a day-to-day matter for FÁS.

In the case of the employment subsidy scheme and the job training scheme introduced this year, the level of funding available is more than adequate to meet current demands under both schemes.
