Question:

56 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Labour the total expenditure for January to December for the years 1989 to 1992 on the employment incentive scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The employment incentive scheme is aimed at the long term unemployed, early school leavers and other disadvantaged persons. Expenditure on the scheme in 1989 was £3.012 million. In 1990 expenditure was £4.716 million and the figure for 1991 was £3.580 million. The projected expenditure for 1992 is £3.360 million.
