Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

66 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Finance (a) the number of farmers liable for income tax in the current year and (b) the number of farmers who actually paid income tax in the last year for which figures are available.

The number of farmers who were assessed to income tax for the income tax year 1991-92, the latest year for which the relevant statistics are available, is estimated at 67,000, of whom an estimated 26,000 will have a tax liability.

The number of farmers who paid income tax for the year 1990-91 up to 31 December 1991, the latest year and date for which the relevant statistics are available, is estimated at 25,100.
