Vol. 423 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport Service.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

71 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if he will sanction a proposal put forward by the board of management of St. Joseph's secondary school Ballybunion, County Kerry to facilitate students from the Beale/Ashdee area of County Kerry.

I am aware of the problems in relation to transport arrangements for pupils from the Beale/Asdee area who are attending Ballybunion post-primary centre. The proposals submitted by the board of management of St. Joseph's secondary school could not be implemented because of the adverse effects they would have on transport services in an adjoining catchment area.

My Department has asked the County Kerry transport liaison officer, together with Bus Éireann, to review the operation of transport services into Ballybunion, with a view to providing an improved standard of service for all concerned.

Michael Creed

Question:

72 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education if he will grant school transport to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

For transport purposes, the appropriate school for the child in question is Kilbarry national school. Concessionary fare-paying transport to Dromleigh national school may be offered to her, subject to the usual conditions attaching to this concession. They are that there must be room on the bus, after all eligible pupils have been catered for, and that there is no extra cost involved.
