Written Answers. - County Kildare Schools.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

81 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the failure of the central heating at Maynooth post-primary school, Maynooth, County Kildare; the proposals, if any, he has to put this in order; when the works will be carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department is aware of problems with the heating system at this school. The vocational education committee has been advised to have its consultant engineer examine possible solutions to the problem and to report back to the Department. A decision on the appropriate course of action to take will be made following the examination of these reports.

Question:

82 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the extent of the extra accommodation sought by the authorities at Maynooth post-primary school, Maynooth, County Kildare; the extent to which these requirements will be met; when the works are likely to be completed and ready for occupation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The vocational education committee had sought provision of an additional five general classrooms, a demonstration room, and a general purpose room and some ancillary facilities. In the light of the accommodation needs of the school and its anticipated future enrolments, my Department was in a position to sanction funding for three temporary general classrooms only.
