Vol. 423 No. 4

Written Answers. - Structural Funds Application.

Peter Barry

Question:

79 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Finance if he will favourably consider an application from the Cork Archives Institute for Structural Funds to enable it to provide a purpose-built archive for Cork city and county, bearing in mind the importance of the service it provides, both nationally and internationally.

I assume the Deputy is referring to a proposal which, I understand, has been submitted to the South West Sub Regional Review Committee for consideration in the context of their submission on the post-1993 Structural Funds.

In May 1992, I requested the Sub-Regional Review Committees to prepare submissions setting out their priorities for EC Structural Fund support in the post-1993 round. As part of the process, the Sub-Regional Review Committees have received submissions from their constituent bodies and a very wide range of interests. A copy of the Cork Archives proposal has also been forwarded to my Department's representative on the South-West Sub-Regional Review Committee.
I understand that the submission from the South-West Review Committee is at an advanced stage of preparation and I expect that it will be submitted at the end of October.
