92 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Finance if it is intended to carry out any safety, conservation or renovative works at the rock of Donamase, Portlaoise, County Laois in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Some conservation and site clearance works were carried out at Dunamase this year. Before further works can be carried out, it will be necessary to undertake an archaeological excavation of the site.
An excavation at the gateways is due to be carried out in 1993, and further conservation works will subsequently be undertaken.
The programme of conservation works at Dunamase will be extensive and will be carried out on a phased basis over a number of years, as resources permit.
