107 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice if he has received a petition from a prisoner (details supplied) for early release; and if, in view of the prisoner's deteriorating health and the hardship to his family, he will accede to the request.
The person mentioned in the Deputy's question was convicted of indecent assault in the Dublin Circuit Court and sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment. With remission he will be eligible for release in February 1993.
I am not satisfied that it would be appropriate to grant early release at this stage but I will keep the matter under review.
