Vol. 423 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bus Passes for Schoolchildren.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

116 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if he will provide bus passes for children from Ballyogan Estate, Carrickmines, County Dublin, who are attending schools other than Sandyford national school.

The Deputy will be aware that, arising from a meeting with representatives of the families in question, Bus Éireann made available free tickets for children from Ballyogan estate, to attend Sandyford national school. However, it is understood that only six children availed of this facility.

In view of the fact that significant unused accommodation remains available at Sandyford national school and that the parents involved appear to have opted to send their children elsewhere, it is not open to me to grant transport to the alternative schools in question.
